Deep in the darkest corners of the dark city Commoragh,
the home of the “True Eldar”, lies “The Spire of the Dark Night” and the Kabal
that dwells within its armoured walls. The spire stands no taller than most of
the kabal bases in Commoragh and at a first glance would seem almost
inoffensive in appearance, but little is truly known about the contents of this
nefarious structure and even less is really known about the occupants, The
Kabal of the Dark Night.
This kabal’s origins and history had been all but been wiped
out during “The Fall”, the cataclysmic event that birthed “She Who Thirsts” and
nearly extinguished the entire Eldar race. After what few Eldar that managed to
survive had managed to escape into the web way, they soon split into factions
as the Dark City grew around them and to
a degree the city shielded the remaining “True Eldar” from the ever hungry
clutches of “She Who Thirsts”.
Little is known of the Archon of the Dark Night, what is
known pointed to the Archon being part of a respected family before the fall, they
had never truly given into the temptations of the other Eldar, they had merely
been voyeurs of the fall rather than victims, however like the other Eldar
eventually felt the gnawing of “She Who Thirsts” at their souls but had
discipline enough not to indulge too much in the dark arts required to keep her
at bay. The Dark Night was one of the few Kabal’s in the Dark City not to
employ the services of a Haemonculi or any of their unnatural creations such as
Wracks, Grotesques or Scourges, despite their wealth. The Archon believed them
to be abominations and would never turn to them for aid or help regardless of
how desperate they became. The Archon’s
love for heavy firepower was one of the only real pieces of information known about
the mysterious Archon, little other evidence pointing towards their identity or
heritage. What mystified the citizens of the Dark City more was how the Dark
Night had survived the rise of the tyrant Asdrubael Vect as he became overlord
of Commorragh and in doing so had all but wiped out the noble houses that
commanded the Dark City during its infancy. This apparent overlook scared most
and intrigued others, but no one would dare speak of it, in case of incurring
the wrath of the Tyrant.
However it has been known rarely for forces from the Dark
Night to join raids onto real space worlds, even if few in number they have
aided by loaning their fleets of Ravager gunships and Razorwing jetfighters to
sizeable raids with the most rewards. These forces disappear as quickly as they
arrive back to the spire after taking the rewards owed
for their services. It has even been noted that their forces have been seen
allied with their craftworld cousins in defence of their borders from imperial
forces, providing crucial heavy support to the crude weaponry of their
craftworld brethren, no knowledge of how this alliance came to be is known and
many have questioned the kabal’s actions to no avail.
Over the last few months the kabal has been the hot topic
in Commorragh with more whispers being spread about their forces. These rumours
have included many tales such as; the Kabal is preparing for a lone raid into
real space to attack the imperium of man, they plan to attack the Tau empire,
they intend to conquer the warp to destroy “She Who Thirsts”, the kabal is
planning a coup against the tyrant and even that the kabal has formed a secret
alliance with the tyrant’s forces in the Black Heart kabal to help give the
Black Heart power absolute within Commorragh.
Many rumours are rife inside the eternal city with little
to no fact being known, the only evidence of increased activity from the kabal
at present is a mysterious signal that started being generated from the spire
of the Dark Night, a signal so strong its been sent not only round the webway, into
every facet of Commorragh but piercing the very fabric of the webway itself and
being transmitted into real space itself.
Its message being short yet repeating over and over again
…..
“We are the Dark Night & We Are Coming”.
