Least Favourite Wrestlemania Matches

This list was even more difficult for me to write than the favourite matches, if you can believe that, because regardless of the fact that it’s the biggest wrestling show of the year, each and every time we do get a stinker or two, so here we go.....

1.       Intercontinental Championship Match - Rey Mysterio vs JBL at Wrestlemania 25
This match hurt me emotionally, I was a huge fan of JBL when he was WWE champion, I felt that this match could have been a bit of a gem, however as Rey was making his entrance I nipped to the toilet and when I came back the match was over and Mysterio was IC champ!!! WTF! Really?? Then to make matters worse JBL then quits and walks out! This match is up there as completely horrific.

2.       World Heavyweight Championship match
Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 22
No I am not totally against Rey Mysterio but I must admit to not liking him, however this match to me was a real cluster fuck of a match, Mysterio had this spot because Eddie Guerrero died and Angle was in it because Batista was injured and Orton because they needed someone else involved. For god’s sake Angle wins the match 2 times during the encounter yet still doesn’t walk out with the belt!!! So sadly this match despite Angle’s awesome performance makes this list.

3.       Jerry The King Lawler vs. Michael Cole at Wrestlemania 27
No, No, No, No, No!!!! We did not need this match and especially not at the biggest PPV of the year, the only thing that even got the fans interested was they had Stone Cold as the referee. Even then through a stupid “Mystery GM” was the match decided.... what a waste.

4.       The Rock vs. John Cena from Wrestlemania 29
I have chosen this match for a few reasons, the main 1 being that their encounter the previous year was labelled “Once in a Lifetime”... Yeah! Right! 2nd being that after about 2 minutes the Rock was blown up, he was puffing like mad and he was obviously in bad cardio shape for a match of this calibre. Their first encounter wasn’t as good as anyone expected and this match was worse.

5.       Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at Wrestlemania 20
Wow, neither of these guys cared and neither did anyone in the crowd. The story broke that both guys were leaving the company and they did little to hide it. The only time the crowd bought into this match was when Stone Cold stunned both Goldberg and Lesnar at the end of the match.

Honourable mentions.
1.       ECW Title match - Kane Vs Chavo Guerrero at Wrestlemania 24
2.       Casket Match – Mark Henry vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania 22
3.       World Title match – Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania 28
4.       Kane vs. The Great Khali – Wrestlemania 23

Those are my personal choices for my least favourite Wrestlemania matches and now i’ll pass you over to my partner in crime 12VE-PAC for his choices.

5 of the worst Wrestlemania matches in history

Wrestlemania 28 - Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus

The downright embarrassing 18-second match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus at WrestleMania 28 felt like a slap in the face to both guys. Even the awful Michael Cole got more time in the ring at Wrestlemania. A list of the worst matches should always include this debacle.

Wrestlemania 9 - Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez

I feel like I'm betraying all wrestling fans by putting The legendary undertaker on my bad list but truly this match was absolutely awful. Not even a really cool chariot entrance with a Vulture could save this match.  One thing is for sure, when talking about The Undertaker’s best WrestleMania bouts, this is absolutely at the bottom of the list. No doubt Undertaker wishes he could erase this mess from his resume altogether. Truthfully, Gonzalez made The Great Khali look like Shawn Michaels. No one, not even Undertaker, could have saved this match from disaster.

Wrestlemania 20 - Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg w/ Stone Cold as Special Referee

Lesnar vs.. Goldberg ended up as one of the most memorable bouts in WWE history for all the wrong reasons as the fans in the arena vociferously booed and jeered the two wrestlers. Word got around prior to the show that both were soon leaving the company. Only special guest referee 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin managed to garner cheers, when does this man not get cheered? The crowd really got behind the rattlesnake when he delivered the Stunner to both men after the match was over. DTA!

Wrestlemania 12 - Hunter Hurst Helmsley vs. The Ultimate Warrior

HHH's first match at Wrestlemania was very short lives indeed. There was a stone cold t shirt that said "arrive, raise hell, leave" that pretty much gives you a description of this match apart from the raise hell bit. I would say this has to be the worst on the list because there was no actual match but the crowd were a little more accepting of this kind of thing back in the day.

Wrestlemania 7 - Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. "The Model" Rick Martel (Blindfold Match)

Credit the build up and a slightly less hostile crowd back in 1991 for this match being what is like to call "a crap classic" a match so bad it was actually good. By definition gimmick matches like this are terrible and this one was no exception, but testament to both guys and how they worked the build up to this match it is actually enjoyable.

Honourable Mentions

Wrestlemania 27 – Michael Cole vs.. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler
Wrestlemania 9 – Yokozuna vs. Hulk Hogan (Impromptu Match)
Wrestlemania 2 – Rowdy Roddy Piper vs.. Mr. T (Boxing Match)
Wrestlemania 21 – Big Show vs. Akinbono (Sumo Match)
Wrestlemania 30 - Kid Rock tries to sing… AGAIN :)
